Our departments and organizations
Department of Career Sciences
The department offers programs in Tourism and Hotel Studies. The Tourism Program emphasizes planning, management, development and marketing of all sectors in the tourism industry at both international and national levels, integrated quality management strategic management and marketing of the hotel industry at levels of both individual and international business.
Department of Communication Arts and Information
The department offers the Mass Communications Program which provides theoretical and practical study of the mass media, radio, television, film, publications and of advertising and public relations. It also offers courses in library science as a service to students of all faculties to introduce them the library, and to equip them with theoretical concepts and practical skills for using the library and other information resources.
Department of Foreign Languages
The department offers major programs in English, French, German, Japanese and Chinese and service language courses for all students of the university. The aim is to help students to acquire a greater command of the language they study and an appreciation of the culture of the country in which the language is spoken.
Department of Linguistics
The department engages in studies in linguistics to develop students’ abilities in systematic thought and analysis so as to gain an understanding of the acquisition of first languages and foreign languages and the use of language. On the baccalaureate level, it offers restricted elective courses for students of certain major programs and free elective courses for students of all majors.
Department of Literature
The department offers degrees in literature with two areas of concentration: English and Thai literatures. Both options feature the study of literary language, narrative, dramatic and poetic arts and emphasize the appreciation of the cultural and literary richness of the texts in both languages and the roles of creative works in every aspect of human life. The courses are designed to develop both students’ understanding of important works of English and Thai literatures and their ability to acquire the habit of questioning and self-articulation.
Department of Music
The department offers programs in Thai classical music, Western music. The Thai music Program teaches the theory of Thai music and skills in playing the students’ instrument of choice. There is instruction in two areas: the traditional Thai orchestra and the stringed instruments and ensembles. The Western Music Program offers instruction in the violin, the piano, the trombone, the double bass and percussion and other instruments as well as in the theory of Western music from the fundamental to the advanced levels and in musical composition, arrangement and harmony.
Department of Philosophy and Religion
The department offers major programs in philosophy and religion and service courses concerned with philosophy, the endeavour to consider problems through the application of reason, and with world religions, including Buddhism, Christianity, Islam and Hinduism.
Department of Thai
The department offers major programs in Thai and service courses for all students of the university covering all aspects of the Thai language from its structure and history through theory and development of skill in understanding, speaking, reading and writing Thai.
Department of Eastern Languages
The department, the newest of the Faculty, currently offers major programs in Chinese and Japanese, as well as elective courses in Korean. In preparation for the merging of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), the department is expanding to include the teaching of some ASEAN languages and cultures -- Vietnamese, Malay, and Burmese.
The Confucius Institute at Kasetsart University
The Confucius Institute operating under a cooperative arrangement between Kasetsart University and Huaqiao University in the People’s Republic of China, organizes Chinese language and culture training programs, training for Chinese-language teachers, and the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) Chinese-language proficiency examinations for those aspiring to further their studies in the People’s Republic of China.
The Language Center
The Language Center provides training in the foreign languages, Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese for Kasetsart University students and the general public.
