Thematic Issues
Sustainable forest management (SFM) will only be achieved when three important components are in place: good governance, clear and respected rights, and equitable benefit sharing.
These lie at the heart of sound natural resource management and are the foundation for the three pillars of sustainable development: social, environmental and economic. If this foundation is weak, local people will continue to be marginalized, poverty reduction will not be realized, and forests will be threatened.
Governance, rights, and benefits are overarching themes shaping all RECOFTC’s work. Within these broad themes, RECOFTC focuses on three topics that will shape rural livelihoods and forest management over the coming years; forests and climate change, markets, and conflicts over rights and natural resources.
